What Information I Collect & Why

When you request an assessment I need to know basic personal information about you and your child to contact you and to book an assessment. If an assessment is booked, background information is requested regarding your child. A knowledge of your child’s health and developmental history, linguistic history and education history are all relevant as they help to build a full picture of your child and to see if there are any possible factors that could explain their literacy difficulties. I will also ask about any family history of specific learning difficulties. If these are relevant, with your permission, I will include details of these in the final report but I won’t mention specific names.

I will also obtain background information from your child’s school so that I have an understanding of how their difficulties manifest in the classroom. If there is any information that is not to be included in the report, this must be clearly stated.

How Your Data is Handled

I only use the information that may identify you in accordance with GDPR.  This requires me to process personal data only if there is a legitimate basis for doing so and that any processing must be fair and lawful.  Within the Specific Learning Difficulty sector I have a duty of confidence, which means that I treat all information confidentially and it is only used for the purpose of providing an assessment.

Your personal data is processed by me personally.  Electronic reports are stored on my personal computer system which is password protected. I do not sell, rent or exchange your personal data with any third party.  I will not share your information for marketing purposes with any third-party companies.  I only use your contact details to supply you with information, visit you or send you an invoice or assessment report.

I will leave it to you to share the report with your child’s school or any other third parties.

How Long I Store Your Data

I store your personal data electronically for the period recommended by the professional association that I am a member of (Patoss) which currently is till the child is aged twenty four. Test papers will be kept for one month after the assessment and then destroyed.
